Particularly in recent times, football podcasts have become an essential part of the modern fan’s experience, offering insightful analysis, entertaining discussions, and BTS insights into the game.
Which Football Podcasts are available?
I’d like to think there’s something out there for everybody.
Every person and their dog has a podcast with their cat in the editing suite, and as one of the biggest ‘niches’ in the world, there are plenty of football podcasts to choose from.
Because of that, it can be challenging to know where to start. So, while this won’t be the first time we talk about football podcasts, I’ve chose to use this time here to go through four particularly insightful and engaging options that I’ve been listening to for a while – and highly recommend.
From tactical breakdowns to simple banter, these podcasts cover a wide range of topics and offer something for every football enthusiast. Which is what we’re all about here at Hobby FC!
The Totally Football Show
Hosted by James Richardson, The Totally Football Show is a must-listen for fans looking for in-depth analysis, witty banter, and expert commentary on the latest football news and events.
With a rotating panel of guests, including journalists, pundits, and former players, each episode offers a comprehensive overview of the week’s matches, rumours, and talking points from around the world.
Whether you’re interested in Premier League drama or European football insights, The Totally Football Show has you covered with its engaging discussions and entertaining format.
It’s in the name really, isn’t it? So that was a clever choice. Check it out here.
The Guardian Football Weekly
The Guardian Football Weekly, hosted by Max Rushden and Barry Glendenning, is a long-standing favorite among football fans for its insightful analysis, lively debates, and irreverent humor.
With a mix of expert guests and regular contributors, each episode covers the latest news, results, and controversies from the world of football with a keen eye for detail and a healthy dose of wit.
From tactical breakdowns to offbeat stories, The Guardian Football Weekly offers a well-rounded and entertaining look at the beautiful game that keeps listeners coming back for more.
You can check them out here.
The Athletic Football Podcast
The Athletic Football Podcast, hosted by Mark Chapman and a rotating cast of journalists and analysts from The Athletic (duh), offers listeners a deep dive into the biggest stories and trends in football.
With a focus on long-form storytelling and in-depth analysis, each episode explores the personalities, tactics, and narratives shaping the footballing landscape.
Whether you’re interested in exclusive interviews, behind-the-scenes insights, or tactical breakdowns, The Athletic Football Podcast delivers some of the highest quality football podcasts around.
You shouldn’t expect less from The Athletic, really! Check it out here.
Football Ramble
The Football Ramble, hosted by Marcus Speller, Luke Moore, Pete Donaldson, and Jim Campbell, is a lively and light-hearted podcast that combines analysis with banter.
Known for its offbeat humour and passionate discussions, each episode covers the news, but regularly finds a spin to keep the audience on their toes.
From memorable anecdotes to spirited debates, The Football Ramble offers one of the most refreshingly fun and chilled vibes compared to other football podcasts.
Which we all appreciate a lot! Check them out here.
Summary
Football podcasts are now a part of the typical fan’s repertoire.
Sure, fans have ‘shorter attention spans’ with the rise of TikTok as a powerhouse in the social media space, but there’s clearly a space in the market (and your diary) for a good bit of chat.
So make sure you check at least a few of these out if you’re looking for something to accompany your evening downtime or morning commute. And yes, there are serious plans to do a Hobby FC Podcast, so make sure you watch this space carefully and tell everybody you know!
Which of these football podcasts will you consider trying?
