When I first started collecting, I went straight to YouTube to learn as much as I could.
And immediately, I was drawn in by the calming, considerate approach of the TRIKE Cards channel.
As I’ve said many times before, I want Hobby FC to be a place to celebrate the hobby. And a large part of that is providing a place for beginners (in particular) to know where to go and align with those who help them get there.
Spend a few minutes on YouTube (or indeed any other social media platform) and you’ll find no shortage of creators opening expensive hobby boxes, celebrating huge pulls and talking about the latest market trends.
There’s nothing wrong with that—it can be great entertainment—but if you’re completely new to the hobby, it doesn’t always answer the questions you’re actually asking. And if anything, it can feel quite ‘noisy’ or even intimidating.
Where do you start? How do you know what’s worth buying? And the list goes on…
For me, TRIKE answers more questions than he leaves unanswered.
(His actual name is ‘Troy’ by the way, but it makes sense for the purpose of the article to go by his trade name)
What Kind of Content Does TRIKE Cards Make?
At its heart, the channel is all about helping people understand the sports card hobby.
Rather than focusing solely on big pulls or showing off high-value collections, TRIKE spends a lot of time breaking down the decisions behind collecting and reselling. Whether it’s buying cards on eBay, discussing market trends, sharing grading advice or explaining what makes a particular card appealing, the videos are built around helping viewers think differently about the hobby.
When you actually break it down, that’s what most beginners need.
Not someone telling them exactly what to buy, but someone explaining why certain cards stand out in the first place.
He’s equally brilliant finding the fine balance between card show content – to the ‘entertaining’ stuff of having a large budget and catering to the higher end of the hobby, to his famous love for ‘dollar boxes’ and finding actual value in the rough.
The Beauty of TRIKE’s Content Packaging
It sounds obvious, but knowing something and explaining it well aren’t always the same thing.
There are plenty of knowledgeable people in the hobby who have years of experience. The challenge is presenting that experience in a way that feels approachable, especially if you’ve only just started collecting.
TRIKE does that particularly well. And for me, is arguably the best at the moment.
The videos are well structured, easy to follow and never feel like they’re trying to overwhelm you with information. A topic is introduced, explained clearly and then backed up with real examples, so by the time you’ve finished watching, you’ve usually learned something without feeling like you’ve sat through a lesson.
That’s down to his own approach, genuine candidness and clear focus on providing value in his videos.
Why TRIKE Cards is Great Creator for Aspiring Sports Card Resellers
For me, this is where I’d personally regard TRIKE as the best in the business. When it comes to providing genuine value to people who want to get started in the hobby reselling business. Which is a scaling and volumous process – away from the glitz and the glam that is shown (and only relevant for) at the top.
A lot of people discover sports cards because they’re interested in buying and selling alongside collecting, but reselling is often presented as if it’s much easier than it really is.
The reality is that successful reselling comes from understanding the market.
You need to know what collectors are looking for, when demand changes, how grading affects value and why some cards perform better than others over time. For more on the last part, here’s our guide on different types of parallel sports cards.
Even then, that’s only the tip of the iceberg but we’ll get to the others, don’t worry!
TRIKE regularly covers these areas in a way that feels realistic rather than sensational. There’s no promise that every purchase will double in value, and I actually think that’s refreshing. Instead, the focus is on making better decisions consistently.
For anyone hoping to learn the reseller side of the hobby, that’s a much stronger foundation to build from.
Why Football Collectors Should Watch Too
Although TRIKE’s content isn’t exclusively focused on football cards, I still think there’s plenty for football collectors to learn.
The fundamentals of the hobby are surprisingly similar across different sports.
Understanding grading, recognising value, spotting buying opportunities and learning how collectors think are all skills that transfer whether you’re collecting football, basketball, baseball or American football.
In fact, football collectors can often benefit from watching creators outside their own niche. The wider sports card market is incredibly established, and many of the ideas that become popular in football collecting have already been discussed elsewhere.
Having said that, leading up to the World Cup, TRIKE is a self-confessed ‘soccer’ collector. Particularly for FC Barcelona and Arsenal. Which is also nice to see as a UK collector and creator myself when fed all this content through the American lens.
Why You Need to Follow TRIKE Cards
Personally, I think every beginner should have a handful of creators they enjoy learning from.
Not because you need to copy every card they buy or every opinion they have, but because listening to experienced collectors explain their thought process is one of the quickest ways to improve your own understanding of the hobby.
For me, TRIKE Cards is one of those creators.
The channel strikes a really nice balance between education and entertainment. The videos are well organised, easy to follow and, perhaps most importantly, genuinely useful whether you’re building your first collection or starting to explore buying and selling cards more seriously.
If you’re new to sports cards in 2026, I’d definitely recommend giving the channel a watch.
And not just YouTube – but his other socials are packaged in a way to suit them too – like every great creator does.
What’s your favourite TRIKE Cards video that you’ve personally seen value from?
