Why You Will Love ‘The Goldin Touch’ (Netflix)

If you’re in the mood for a dive into the world of high-stakes sports and (more recently) pop culture collectibles, Netflix’s “The Goldin Touch” is the perfect watch for you.

This series offers a fascinating peek behind the curtain of the lucrative world of sports memorabilia, and it’s every bit as interesting and insightful as you’d hope for us collectors out there.

At the heart of “Goldin Touch” is the charismatic Ken Goldin, the founder of Goldin Auctions.

Ken’s larger-than-life personality is infectious, drawing you into his whirlwind world of rare sports memorabilia. His passion and expertise shine through in every episode, making him the perfect guide on this wild ride. It’s decidedly… American – is probably the best way I can put it!

One of the most captivating aspects of “The Goldin Touch” is the treasure hunt for rare and valuable items. From pristine rookie cards to game-worn jerseys, each episode is a new adventure.

And a potentially door into a new world if you’re unaccustomed to a particular area or sport.

The series captures the excitement and suspense of bidding wars and high-stakes negotiations, making you feel like you’re right there in the thick of it. Especially the 2nd season, where the Netflix producers also take greater time in getting to know the sellers as well as the consignors.

The show delves into the personal stories and motivations of collectors and sellers, adding depth and humanity to the glitzy world of auctions. The drama that unfolds is as compelling as any reality show, but with a unique and fascinating twist.

Hence why I believe the ‘rewatch value’ to be higher than more other shows in a similar space. Then again, there aren’t many specifically diving into the world of sports collectibles, are there?

While “The Goldin Touch” is undeniably entertaining, it’s also surprisingly educational.

The series provides insights into the history and significance of various collectibles, enhancing your appreciation for the hobby. You’ll find yourself learning about the sports legends behind the memorabilia and the meticulous care that goes into preserving these treasures.

It reminds me of ‘Pawn Stars’ in that regard, only better! And also a much better reflection as to the real-life value of the items they consign – with real-life bidders showing us the results of auctions.

Needless to say these days, the production value of “The Goldin Touch” is top-notch. The visuals are crisp and vibrant, showcasing the incredible detail and craftsmanship of the memorabilia.

The cinematography adds to the allure, making each item look like a priceless gem.

Ultimately, “The Goldin Touch” is a feel-good show. It celebrates passion, perseverance, and the joy of collecting. Whether you’re a seasoned collector or just curious about the world of sports memorabilia, this series is sure to entertain and inspire.

In my personal opinion, it’s also a great thing for the hobby as a whole. The reason I started Hobby FC was to build this platform into a place where we share, learn and grow as a collective space. And shows like this will only go on to make us all more aware and knowledgeable of this area.

That can only be a great, and undeniably positive influence.

Overall “The Goldin Touch” on Netflix is a triumph, and I love it.

Of course, I would personally prefer a bit more on the football / ‘soccer’ (ew) side, but given its base in the United States and the awareness this raises for sports collecting as a whole, I’m sure there will be a trickle-down effect on the beautiful game, too.

With its charismatic host, engaging cast, thrilling hunts for rare treasures, and heartwarming personal stories, it’s a series that shines brightly. So, grab some popcorn, settle in, and let Ken Goldin take you on an unforgettable journey into the world of sports memorabilia.

You won’t regret it.

Oh and by the way, it’s worth showing this to anyone who doubts the reason for why you’re still growing your personal collection. The numbers here have to be seen to really be believed!

Have you already watched it and/or are you planning to?
